Independent VST developer UGO has just released a killer combination of a left-field percussion synth and multi-effect especially designed for it. Even better, your humble author designed 16 of the factory patches.
Your welcome.
As I was only working with the beta of Ironhead* for the patch design, I haven’t yet tried Tunguska. But since I stand by all of UGO’s other very fine creations I can’t imagine it’s anything less than stellar. (I’m installing it presently.) He has a great imagination when it comes to instruments, and for a one-man operation (I believe) they are incredibly professional. It helps that he totally knows his shit with graphic design. All his creations have innovative and beautiful interfaces.
Ironhead is very cool once you get your mind around what it is doing. Each of the hits has an A/B state which can be tuned independently, then morphed between in a variety of ways, including a versitile LFO. So without tweaking it can sound like a slightly clattery electronic kit, but once you get it pumping, especially through additional effects (hence Tunguska), it can be great, unexpected percussion (my favorite kind of percussion) for a track.
I’ve already expressed to him my main feature request should he update it (and he’s good about improving his collection and keeping them working). What I would really like to see is a link button for the two kick pads as well as the two snares (called Thud and Whack respecitively) (buy it and you’ll see what I mean). I got the idea from working with BFD and linking pieces in that. I understand that you can just trigger two notes just as easily, but when using MIDI clips (which I do – more so than audio loops at this point, I’m I like working with MIDI patterns) it’s just easier if you’re building massive thuds and whacks.
Now, if UGO would just get cracking on Motion 3.
